Elpidio Quirino: The Legacy Of A Bigueño

Image
Elpidio Quirino, the sixth Philippine president, was a visionary leader who was essential to the nation's reconstruction after World War II. Quirino was born in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, on November 16, 1890. A self-made man, he worked hard to pursue education, eventually graduating with a law degree from the University of the Philippines in 1915. His modest upbringing as the son of a jail warden influenced his character and dedication to public service.  President Elpidio Quirino made important contributions to building solid relations between Japan and the Philippines. His forbearance and statesmanship with Japanese prisoners of war (POW) established the groundwork for the remarkable bilateral relationship that exists today.  Quirino started his public service career as a legislator, where he supported social and educational reforms. But he quickly rose to national recognition thanks to his abilities and moral character. He formed important f...

Climate Change Is Very Strange

Image
In the Philippines, sudden typhoons, rising sea levels, and unpredictable weather patterns have become the new norm, indicating that climate change is a real threat. With continuous typhoons, frequent flooding, landslides, and hotter weather conditions, this indicates that climate change greatly impacts lives in a negative way. One of the main causes of the worsening impacts of climate change in the Philippines is deforestation. Communities become more vulnerable and prone to natural disasters as forests are cut down, removing natural barriers against landslides and flooding. The use of fossil fuels in everyday life such as energy consumption, and transportation with vehicles that use gas have also been one of the many contributors to climate change. Fortunately, despite these challenges, Filipinos continue to demonstrate resiliency. Local governments and community organizations have taken mitigation measures, such as replanting mangroves and providing disaster preparedness training, a...

And If I Was A Child, Did It Matter If You Got To Wash Your Hands?: Chldren's Rights For Children's Month

Image
The 2024 National Children's Month event, which takes place in November, serves as a timely reminder of our shared need to safeguard our society's most defenseless citizens—our children. This year's campaign, with the theme "Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines," emphasizes how important it is to solve the ongoing problems of violence, neglect, and exploitation that many Filipino children deal with. A multi-sectoral strategy is needed to make the Philippines a safer place for kids. Families, communities, schools, and governmental organizations must work together to improve children's support networks. Important first efforts include raising awareness, enforcing child protection laws more strictly, and providing accessible counseling services. Moreover, educating kids about their rights and empowering them to report abuse against them are essential components of fostering a supportive and safe atm...

Conserving And Preserving The Environment For Our Betterment

Image
Our environment is being destroyed as generations go by due to the rise of global warming and climate change. Environment Month is a time of the year when we celebrate Mother Nature and its surroundings. To celebrate, let's take a moment and appreciate our earth by contributing to the protection and care of our environment. As members of the human race, we must help restore or make our planet a better place for future generations. This National Clean Up Month aims to provide awareness of our responsibilities as human beings to take care of and preserve our environment before it's too late.            This image provides a picture of me, alongside my fellow members of the debate club, as we take part in participating in a clean-up drive around our school that was organized by the Supreme Secondary Learner Government to ensure neat and orderly school grounds for students and teachers.          This image of me refilling my hydro ...

A Reflection Of The First Quarter

Image
As the first quarter ends, I have gained a deeper understanding of topics such as the origin of the internet, the origin of blogs, the important people who made surfing through the internet possible, hyperlinks, domain names, the World Wide Web, the formulation of my blog, the types of blogs, uploading drafts, and expressing our opinions on the internet through our blogs. With this knowledge, I was able to create and publish my very first blog on blogger.com to express my thoughts on certain topics such as a blog about a more upright country and a letter of intent for our president. However, every journey comes with a challenge. One of the obstacles I have experienced through this is the inability of some computers to work and a slow response of the internet when encoding our drafts in the computer lab because of the number of students who are also encoding their drafts, which made the WIFI connection slower. Another obstacle t...

A lesson that is not only for academics but life lessons that we, as students will never forget. And with that, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all of the teachers who teach with love and patience. Dearest mentors, thank you for your never-ending support and wisdom that you have enriched us with. October is your month, and I would like to express my gratitude for all of your hard work in providing us with the knowledge that we need for our future.
